Romania: buntings

The bunting family is a bit of a mixed bag.  Some are fairly nondescript – others are striking.  In Romania we saw all sorts – plain corn buntings, striking reed buntings, brightly coloured yellowhammers and our first black headed buntings.

Snow Bunting

We only saw one male and we only saw it once.  We did not manage to get very close to it – but I did manage to take a picture.  It is the only male Snow Bunting in breeding plumage I’ve ever seen!
